استخدام “Appreciate”
عندما تأتي صيغة الـ gerund فقط بَعْد appreciate فإنها تشير إلى فاعل الجملة، ولكن عندما تأتي صفة ملكية + صيغة الـ gerund بَعْد appreciate فإن صيغة الـ gerund في هذه الحالة لا تشير إلى الفاعل. يُمْكِن أن يأتي بَعْد appreciate اسم أيضًا.

استخدام “Mean”
تُعَبِر mean + صيغة الـ gerund عن النتيجة المستقبلية للفعل أو ما سيَكُون ضروريًا. في مِثل هذه الجُمَل، يُمْكِن استبدال الفعل mean بالفعل involve.
أمثلة
- If you take that job in London it will mean travelling for two hours every day.
- We could take the ferry to France, but that will mean spending a night in a hotel.
- Buying this jacket now means not buying another until next year.
- Leaving school would mean finding a job.
تُعَبِر mean + المَصْدر المسبوق بـ to عن خُطة أو نية. في مِثل هذه الجُمَل، يُمْكِن استبدال الفعل mean بالفعل intend.
